Membership
Today, the Women's Leadership Board is comprised of 150 individuals, each of whom has been nominated for membership, vetted and accepted by the Executive Committee of the Board for inclusion as a member of this important body. The following details the Women's Leadership Board's work:
- Initiate and support research at Harvard University related to women's issues.
- Bring to the Harvard University community elected women officials and women heads of state to share their knowledge and experience with students, faculty, and the community.
- Collaborate with the Women and Public Policy Program, a pioneering initiative to promote an understanding of gender perspectives on public policy.
- Advise the Dean of the John F. Kennedy School of Government on initiatives that support the role of women as leaders in business, government and at the Kennedy School itself.
- Mentor and support the next generation of young women leaders.
In addition to active involvement in each of these areas, the members of the Women's Leadership Board participate in social and networking activities at Harvard University and throughout the world to build a network of influential women committed to participating in global change for women.
CRITERIA OF MEMBERSHIP
- Candidates for membership must be pre-eminent in their chosen field and have attained recognized positions of leadership within it.
- Candidates must support the mission of the Women's Leadership Board and have a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of women.
- Candidates should have circles of influence beyond their professional sphere and participate in community, national or international causes.
REQUIREMENTS OF MEMBERS
- Board members are expected to participate in two board meetings a year.
- Board members are expected to attend regional meetings.
- Board members are invited and expected to participate in at least one Women's Leadership Board study delegation every three years.
- Board members are asked to participate in customized mentoring activities either virtually or in person.
- Board members may be asked to represent the Board at events both at Harvard University and in the broader community.
- Board members may be asked to share relevant expertise in Women's Leadership Board executive training programs.
- All Board members must be able to support the Board's activities either through her company /organization or personally with a minimum annual contribution of $10,000.
MEMBERSHIP SELECTION
Prospective members are nominated by Harvard Kennedy School officials and existing members.
