Experience: Francine LeFrak is a renowned producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. She captivated audiences with My One and Only, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Nine and many other Broadway productions that have received more than a dozen Tonys and 41 Drama Desk awards. Her films have been hailed for putting a human face on important social issues: the ravages of war, injustices in the prison system, and the price of intolerance. Her Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Miss Rose White, received four Emmy awards; Shot Through the Heart won a Peabody Award, and the HBO film series Prison Stories: Women on the Inside helped promote changes in prison legislation. LeFrak's passion for women empowering women led her to founding SAME SKY, a trade initiative that gives HIV-positive women survivors of the 1994 Rwandan genocide a "hand-up" not a hand-out, and opportunity to earn an income as artisans which allows them to provide food, education, and healthcare for their families. In recognition of LeFrak's humanitarian efforts, she received the Women Together Award from the United Nations, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor from the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations, and the Human Spirit Award from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. She's been named Woman Who Cares by the United Cerebral Palsy and USO Woman of the Year, to name a few. In 2006, Manhattanville College bestowed upon LeFrak a doctorate of humane letters honoris causa. LeFrak serves on numerous boards, such as the board of directors of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, Grameen America's advisory board, Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, and The Contemporary Art's Council at MoMa. In addition, LeFrak is a CEO of her family's foundation.
