Experience: Renee LaBran is a partner with Rustic Canyon/Fontis Partners, a late-stage venture capital and private equity firm based in Pasadena, CA, as well as a partner in Rustic Canyon Partners, an early stage venture capital fund. LaBran helped form Rustic Canyon in 1999, following 15 years of strategy consulting and hands-on operating experience. LaBran invests in the media (and media technology), consumer goods, and business and consumer services segments, and serves as a board director for her portfolio companies. Prior to Rustic Canyon, LaBran held a variety of executive positions with the Los Angeles Times/Times Mirror Company. She was also a cofounder and CEO of CareerPath.com (now CareerBuilder). Prior to Times Mirror, she was a management consultant with Monitor Company in the US and Europe, and managed the Los Angeles office. Active in her local community, she has served as president of the local Educational Foundation, and is currently vice chair of Hathaway-Sycamores, a family services and mental health agency. She is also an alumni advisor to the Women's Student Association at Harvard Business School. LaBran lives in the Los Angeles area with her husband, Malcolm Boyd, and their two sons. LaBran graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, and earned an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School.
