Experience: Wendy Appelbaum is the Chairman of De Morgenzon Estate, a wine farm and agricultural business in Stellenbosch, South Africa. She is Director of Sphere Holdings (Pty) Limited, a black empowerment, financial services and mining company; Director of Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre (Pty) Limited, a post-graduate teaching hospital; and Director of Victory Enterprises (Pty) Limited. She holds trusteeships at The Children’s Hemophilia & Oncology Clinic, The Donald Gordon Foundation (Africa’s largest private charitable foundation), The Helen Suzman Foundation (which works to strengthen South Africa’s democracy), The Redhill School, The Tribune Trust, and the World Wide Fund for Nature South Africa. Wendy is a member of The Global Philanthropists’ Circle, Harvard University’s Women’s Leadership Board, The International Women’s Forum, The National Federation of Owners & Trainers, The Jockey Club of South Africa, The Racing Association of South Africa, The Houghton Golf Club, and The River Club. Her previous positions include: Chairman of the South African Women’s Professional Golf Association, Deputy Chairman of Connection Group Holdings, Deputy Chairman of the Women’s Investment Portfolio Limited (the first women’s-controlled company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange), Director of both Liberty Investors Limited and Business Arts South Africa, and member of the Advisory Board of the Special Olympics of South Africa. In 2006, Wendy was named Leading Women Entrepreneur of the World.
