The Board's 150 strong community of distinguished women leaders from 20 countries around the world are encouraged to do what they do best - act as galvanizing forces of change - individually and collectively - toward the realization of the Board's mission - to promote the advancement of women and girls on a global scale in collaboration with the leadership of Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Opportunities for members to engage and make a meaningful impact are plentiful. The benefits go beyond the advancement of women and girls. They include access to shared and enriching learning and power networking opportunities, and the development of lifelong friendships. Member pathways of engagement focus on:
Connecting
Connecting members with one another, with current and future women leaders from the private sector, the public sector, the not-for profit sector and major NGO's from around the world, with distinguished faculty at Harvard University and, importantly, with current and future women leaders students at the Harvard Kennedy School, together with research and programs that will benefit the advancement of women and girls around the world. Examples include:
1) Participation in the Board's On-Line Mentoring Match-up Program targeted to students at the Harvard Kennedy School
2) Planning for, funding and hosting of international scholars to participate in the WLB's Future Women Leaders Program, part of Harvard's Summer School Program
3) Coaching current and future women leaders around the world who the Board may be introduced to through, for example, the Women and Public Policy Program (WAPPP) and other Harvard sponsored programs
4) Participation in and referral of distinguished women leaders to the Harvard Kennedy School's signature Women and Power Program and its many other executive leadership programs
Community
The cultivation of Community among members of the Women's Leadership Board, the Harvard student body and faculty, and leaders around the world who share the Board's vision - to serve as an innovative force in the advancement of women and girls. Taking the forms of shared purpose, alignment in execution, and the presence of trusted, mutually supportive relationships, the cultivation of community is a core value of the leadership of the Board, enabling the potential for rapid, model shattering change. Examples of its manifestation include:
1) Participation in the implementation of the Build the Bench Wrap-Around Program, a program of the Women's Leadership Board
2) Representation of the WLB at relevant Harvard functions on and off campus
3) Support of the WLB Chair Endowment
4) Support of the Adrienne Hall Women's Mentorship Fund
Convening
Convening, to enable shared learning, power networking, high connectivity and impact across the Women's Leadership Board. Board members are encouraged to initiate and participate in a variety of convening opportunities that enable shared and enriching learning experiences, and the development of mutually supportive relationships in support of the WLB mission. They include the following:
1) Together with the WLB staff, initiate and plan in-region Harvard sanctioned events that offer members and prospective WLB members access to distinguished faculty and Harvard affiliated leaders whose interests are aligned with the WLB mission
2) Lead/host/participate in Harvard sanctioned international study and exchange delegations
3) Together with fellow WLB members, assume accountability for the support of one or more of the WLB Executive Committee's standing priorities, including implementation of tactics in support of the WLB Strategic Plan
